EARTH

The earth element manifests as solid constructs in the body such as bones, teeth, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints.  Its solid characteristic is found starchy foods, and those that require a lot of chewing to break down.  In herbs, it is present in barks, roots and plants that have a tightening, astringent property.  The earth element brings strength and endurance.  When in excess, it can be felt in conditions like arthritis, tension and congestion.  The medicine of earth can be helpful in cases of bleeding, runny noses, loose stools or conditions of excess mucus.

In this workshop we'll look at conditions within the body that exhibit the earth element in balance and imbalance.  We'll discuss herbal remedies and foods that offer some of the earth element's characteristics to help restore tone to damaged tissues within the body.  We'll also look at remedies that soften and sooth, to help relax the tightened tissues, congestion and sore muscles and joints that can accompany excessive earth element conditions.

Make & Take Project:

Herbal salve is the most solid of the herbal medicines we use, so it's a perfect fit for the earth element make & take.  We'll craft a soothing balm using herbs infused in oil and hardened with beeswax to help warm, soften and relieve muscle and joint pain and inflammation from injuries, overuse or arthritis.
